UCR Boyd-Sweeney Research Center

Mechanical and plumbing design for the University of California, Riverside Sweeney Granite Mountain and Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Centers. These buildings are efficient pre-engineered metal buildings specially designed for environments that can be harsh at times in the desert climate. Boyd Deep Canyon includes an education center and campground to provide educational meeting space and short term sleeping quarters. This project constructed an additional 1,770 SF of enclosed space and 1,500 SF of covered patio space. Sweeney Granite Mountain includes an administration building and researcher housing to provide meeting/office space and short term sleeping quarters. The existing laboratory building and staff residences were extensively renovated.

Mechanical systems include high efficiency heating only systems where no power was available. High efficiency split system for the classrooms building with linear diffusers for better acoustics.

Plumbing systems include high efficiency fixtures and ADA compliant fixtures and accessories.

Sustainable features include thermal mass, covered walkways, ventilated facades, and high efficiency mechanical equipment and low water use fixtures.
