Sharp Memorial South & Central Towers Seismic Retrofit

Sharp Memorial South & Central Towers Seismic Retrofit

Design of the mechanical and plumbing systems to support the SPC2 upgrades to the Central and South Towers at the Sharp Memorial Campus in San Diego. These buildings are over 30 years old.

Design includes coordination with all other disciplines during the construction documents and plan check phases. As part of this project, we had to identify and analyze the overall mechanical and plumbing systems, including the location of all major duct runs (supply, return and exhaust) as well as sanitary waste and vent, lab waste and vent, and medical gas piping, etc. We have to reroute the main utility infrastructure to accommodate the seismic upgrade. This mechanical and plumbing systems / utility modification had to be done while the hospital stayed in operation.

This project was awarded the DBIA 2014 National Design-Build Project/Team Award in the Healthcare Category.
