Lakeside Library

Lakeside Library

Mechanical and plumbing design for a new 16,400 SF library (three times larger than the previous branch library in Lakeside). The library includes a 2,000 SF, 150-seat community room, which is made to host a variety of different events: cultural, musical, dance, educational, and lectures. The library also contains a bookstore, five study rooms, a conference room, a Friends of the Library bookstore, and large spaces for children and teens, as well as a patio, and plenty of public art. It features the latest in library technology, including automated book returns, a laptop kiosk, an audio-visual system, and digital signage. This new facility is a solar-powered zero net energy building.
Mechanical systems includes a high efficiency DDC controlled and monitored VRF heat recovery system. The building is served by fan coil units located above the ceiling; they are DX, constant volume units (EC motors) with ducted supply and return. The heat pump units are located in the outdoor mechanical yard. The indoor fan coils have individual directly ducted filtered outside air.
Plumbing systems include domestic hot and cold water systems, Sanitary waste and vent systems, low flow plumbing fixtures. This is a Net Zero project. No natural gas system.
The design also incorporates extensive sustainability strategies that result in building performance that exceeds Title-24 energy requirements by 30%.
